For the past four years, our congregation has supported a ministry that teaches Christians the ancient disciplines of contemplative prayer. Many evangelicals are unfamiliar with such forms of prayer, and a few dismiss it outright, but we have found contemplative prayer—in a way that is deeply biblical while learning from believers who have come before us—to be blessing to many. In addition, we have found this to be a unique outreach ministry to neighbors who are looking for a deeper spiritual reality but who often assume the church to be the last place they might find it. If anyone would like to know more, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org). In our basic course, I teach the introduction—covering the biblical, theological, and historical roots of contemplative prayer—while the bulk of course is taught by a member of our congregation.
